What is Mammography?

Mammography is a specialized X-ray of the breast that helps detect early signs of breast cancer, even before a lump can be felt. It is one of the most effective screening tools available today. By producing detailed images of breast tissue, mammography allows doctors to spot abnormalities at the earliest stage. Regular mammograms play a vital role in protecting long-term breast health and saving lives.

Why is Mammography Important?

Early detection through mammography greatly increases the chances of successful treatment. It is recommended for women above 40 years and especially for those with a family or personal history of breast cancer.

Basic Mammography Tests:

Screening Mammogram – routine breast health check-up

Diagnostic Mammogram – for women showing symptoms (lumps, discharge, changes)

Digital Mammogram – advanced technology offering clearer and more precise imaging

3D Mammogram (Tomosynthesis) – layered images for improved detection of hidden cancers

What to Expect:

During the test, the breast is gently compressed between two plates to capture clear images. The process is quick, safe, and may feel slightly uncomfortable but not painful. A radiologist carefully reviews the images for any abnormalities.
