TMT (Treadmill Stress Test)

What is TMT?

A TMT (Treadmill Stress Test) is a diagnostic test that evaluates how well your heart functions under physical stress. It helps doctors assess the blood flow to your heart muscles while exercising. By monitoring your heart’s electrical activity during increasing levels of exercise, TMT can detect coronary artery disease (CAD), irregular heart rhythms, and the severity of blockages in the heart’s arteries.

Why is TMT Important?

TMT is used to identify whether your heart is receiving enough oxygen and blood supply during physical activity. It helps diagnose chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, and the risk of heart attacks. The test is especially important for patients with a history of CAD, heart surgery, or previous heart attacks, as it guides timely treatment and preventive measures.

When is TMT Recommended?

History of coronary artery disease (CAD) or heart attack

Chest pain that persists despite rest or medicine

Shortness of breath during exercise

Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

What to Expect:

The test is performed on a treadmill. Electrodes will be attached to your chest to monitor heart activity through an ECG machine. You will start walking at a slow pace, and the treadmill’s speed and incline will gradually increase. This simulates exercise and shows how well your heart performs under stress. The procedure is safe, closely monitored, and usually completed within 30–45 minutes.
